Dota2 Sprites/Pixel Art
« on: October 20, 2011, 02:05:59 AM »

Hello everyone.
Been lurking around for some time, and I'm just as hyped for Dota2 as the rest of you.
Seen a lot of fan art recently, but I have never found any sprites/pixel art of Dota before, so I decided I'd make some of my own.

Venomancer and Viper are the two characters I'm probably most excited to play, so those are the ones I decided to make.

All comments welcome.
Hope you guys enjoy these.

EDIT: Faceless Void added.
Also added the link to JimESC's topic below which I found the art for the sprite. Big thanks to him for giving me permission to use his art as a base.

Appreciate the support.

I've considered making some more, but they are very time consuming.
I also need a decent base to go off of...as I cant make an accurate image of them without that.

You can post who you would like to see next if I do indeed make more, but I wont promise to make them.
Also note that I cannot for the life of me draw or sprite people.
That means wind-runner and such aren't characters that I can do.

I very much like the monster like characters as well, so those would be my likely choices.

Thanks for the response.

A brutal looking Faceless Void would be pretty damn awesome!

Nice work man, looking forward to seeing more!

If I can find a nice image of Faceless Void to base a sprite off of I'll seriously consider giving him a try.

Thinking I'll be making a few more of these and I may start with him.

Well if your looking to get into spriting you can find plenty of guides. I myself dont have any elaborate method. I just take an image and shrink it down to size and color everything with placeholder colors and add detail as I go.

As for Pudge I do believe I could actually pull him off. I cant say for sure how many of these I'll be doing, but I'll take him under consideration.

Thanks for the support bro. At the moment I'm pretty sure that pugna and faceless void are my next sprites.

Magmus is actually the character I play the most in hon, and I'm looking forward to playing sandking, so in truth sandking is a pretty likely pick for me to do, but as I said pugna and faceless void are likely to be next. After them if I decide to do more sandking may be next.

Faceless Void as well as a link to JimESC's artwork that I used with his permission for the sprite have been added to the first post.

There's something wrong, I don't really know, maybe something with the base palette. Anyway it looks cool, wanna see your works on a dark foreground, like this one on dota2talk, think they will "come out" better ^^

Odd that the pallet would look a bit off. I took the colors from the render of faceless void itself and not the artwork that I used. Maybe it would have looked better if I had used the art works pallet.

As for the dark foreground do you mean to say you think the sprites would look better if they were brighter?
I tried it with venomancer and it looked considerably less good than the darker colors. From my perspective anyway. I know that the game is pretty vibrant but the sprites tend to look better when they have a more dark tone to them imo.
