PC System Requirements
  • OS: Windows 7

  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8600/9600GT, ATI/AMD Radeon HD2600/3600

  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

 Mac System Requirements
  • OS: OS X Lion 10.7
  • Processor: Dual core from Intel
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVidia 320M or higher, or Radeon 7000 or higher, or Intel HD 3000 or higher
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space

 Linux System Requirements
  • OS: Ubuntu 12.04
  • Processor: Dual core from Intel or AMD at 2.8 GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8600/9600GT, ATI/AMD Radeaon HD2600/3600 (Graphic Drivers: nVidia 310, AMD 12.11), OpenGL 2.1

  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
  • Sound Card: OpenAL Compatible Sound Card

If you are planning to buy a new PC for playing DOTA 2, we'd suggest you get atleast the following for a constant 60  fps experience at max settings and 1080p.

    * OS: Windows® 8.1 64bit
    * Processor: Intel Pentium G3220
    * Memory: 4GB DDR3

This was already posted here :)

Or did you already know that and just wanted to dedicate a separate thread for it?

Q: What kind of hardware requirements will the game have? (by S.Hong)
A: We don’t have an official minimum spec just yet. The goal is to make sure that people with older computers and the PCs at LAN centers will be able to support the game, while also allowing for newer computers to scale well.

Valve has not released minimum specs.  I'm pretty sure it is going to be close to StarCraft II, since it will have a similar number of units, models and textures.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/starcraft-system-requirements-recommended-pc,10885.html

It won't REQUIRE a dual core processor or a 512 MB video card as your minimum specs.  It may be in the recommended specs for the best quality game play.

However, it will require atleast 1 GB of RAM.  Since Vista and Windows 7 use up more resources, you might require 2 GB.

Valve has not released minimum specs.

these are the current specs that seem to be popular. (hypothetical ofc).

Yup. I never mentioned them as being minimum. These would probably get 60 fps at max. I'm pretty sure it'll end up quite close to HoN (which, again, is essentially the same thing in a technical standpoint).

I find it funny when a large number of people on the DotA forum keep saying they hope the requirements will be close to the original DotA (WC3). Talk about being delusional.

Please don't use video memory as a measure of a graphics card's performance :/ It just makes you look stupid.

I'm quite sure DotA 2 will need 2 gigs. HoN suffers on 1 gig, as do most modern games. Same with the number of cores. While there's still little to no reason to want anything more than 2 cores for gaming, the switch from 1 core to 2 is huge. If you're running a single core PC, maaaaybe you should just stick with DotA.

As for the GPU, I expect it'll need a DX10 capable GPU (AKA GF 8x00/Radeon HD2xxx or newer). Maybe they'll throw in a DX9 mode for ye olde DotA players who refuse to move on because their PCs are crap (often claiming that HoN is too shiny to hide this fact).

Since a lot of similarity is being drawn between DOTA 2 and Alien Swarm, similar system requirements?

Alien Swarm system Rrequirements:

Quote
Minimum requirements:
    * OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
    * Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
    * Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
    * Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
    * Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
    * Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

Recommended requirements:

    * OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
    * Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
    * Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
    * Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
    * Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
    * Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

This looks more acceptable. And it should run OK on any 'decent' 3 year old PC.

It has been said that it will be possible to scale it a lot. So that weaker PCs could handle it but it would still be very possible to maximize the full potential of the beasts wired onto your mobo.

Hope this game is easy to run through linux using other means, don't want to have to dual boot windows specificly for DotA 2, but I guess I will if it comes down to it :/

No. He means wine. It's a kind of emulator. He's suggesting you use it to run it on linux. Although IMO the performance hit would make it impractical.

Wine Is Not an Emulator, and yes, WINE had occurred to me, but as you said, the performance would drop to an unreasonable level for a game such as DotA 2.

My pc can't handle that, it's too HIGH, so,I will be sticking to Icefrog's DotA if the system requirement is not gonna be changed. (sorry for bad english.)

Found THIS thread on GGnet and thought I should share as I think no one else has already.

Go to http://www.gamersbook.com/scene/news/dota-2-system-requirements-revealed/ to check out the requirements.

So Alien Swarm has pretty much the same specs as Dota2.

We know. That was pretty clear from the beginning. Nice to have a confirmation but I think several people (including me) said that months ago  ;D

Edit: LOL I just saw that this quote is one of their sources

This is correct. Alien Swarm is the best example for comparing the system requirements.

Now guess who he was replying to there.
Me, of course.
